Leopard nails

The Nail Files

One of the things I love most about working at an elementary school is that I can be a little bit more well, elementary with my outfits, and they adore it. If I worked at a high school, me wearing a Santa headband probably wouldn’t go over as well.
It also gives me leeway with my nails. I try to do a different design every week, and the kids have started coming up to me on Monday excited to see what I’ve put on over the weekend. This is one of their favorite ones.

You need:
  • A base color
  • The color you want your spots to be (I usually use gold or brown)
  • Clear polish (top coat)
  • Black polish (I like the Sally Hansen nail art pen better than trying to hand trace)

1. Start with nails that are clear of any polish. Do your usual grooming on them. File, clip, whatever.

2. Paint on your base color, letting it dry in between each coat. (This prevents bubbles and makes it dry a little faster)

3. Once the base color is dry, place dots in your other color. I use either a tooth pick or the end of a bobby pin to do this. It looks better if you put them in different patterns on each nail.
4. Once the dots dry, trace around them in black, in a u shape. I usually leave the openings facing different directions. Also add black dots in between them.
Then you have pretty leopard nails, that you did all by yourself.
