She ain’t messing with no brokes.

Two little known facts; I’m a college student. And as most college students, I’m typically broke. Okay, maybe those weren’t complete secrets. But still.

I also love shopping and clothes. So I have to be really careful with how I spend my money so I can pay for gas and my out of control coffee addiction, and still be able to buy fun stuff occasionally. So how do I do it?

  1. Buy those special promotional two packs for things you use a lot. I use a certain hairspray, astringent and chap stick constantly. So when I see them in two packs for the price of one, I buy the two pack. Even if it’s just a dollar more, eventually you’ll need to buy it again. I also love the BOGO half off sales, it’s the same concept. It might be more than what you’d pay if you just got the one, but you’ll get two. So it saves in the long run.
  2. Use coupons and discounts sparingly. I know that sounds weird, since they save you money. But sometimes they don’t. My general rule is if I wouldn’t pay full price for it, then I don’t pay discounted for it. Free is another story though.
  3. Know the seasons. Winter clothes are cheaper in the summer, and vice versa. Basics that don’t go out of style are so much cheaper when they’re out of season. I’ve gotten so many cute swimsuits for two or three dollars because I waited until they were on sale.
  4. Recreate. I’m not a huge DIY-er, but I’ll do it in small doses. I really wanted a chalk board, so I made one out of spray paint and an old frame I had. Pintrest is an incredible way to find ideas. (PS. Click the link to see some of my favorite DIYs!
  5. SAVE YOUR CHANGE! I feel so incredibly lame for saying that. But, if you’re like me, you hate paying with change. So I put all my change into my owl bank, and then bring it to Coinstar to turn into a Starbucks gift card. Then I can live to see another day with caffeine in my system.

Now spill. What are you best tips for saving money?
