I start work Wednesday, so the next two days I have tutorials all set up for y’all on some of my favorite crafty things I know how to do.
I know. Is there anything better than lace? Plus it took maybe ten minutes to make, and I’m in love with it.
All you need to do is take a little trip down to Wal-Mart. I bought:
- A sweatshirt ($5)
- 1 and 5/8ths inch Lace ribbon ($3.97)
- Iron-on adhesive($2.97)
I got thicker lace because I wanted the neckline to be more statement, and less small impact, but you could switch it around if you wanted. The sweatshirt I saw that inspired me had lace dollies all the way down, but I couldn’t find any that weren’t paper. And I’m not sewing paper to my shirt.
Okay, so now that you have everything, here’s what you do.
1. Cut the neckline out of the sweatshirt. I follow along the seam of the actual sewn in neckline when I cut it out, and then fix it later if I need more. Usually that’s a good jumping point, though. You don’t want to cut too much and have it falling way off. (Ignore the face down Pikachu and that I need to vacuum. My cat has a crush on him, and I haven’t gotten around to vacuuming. )
2. Line up the lace around where you want it to be on the neckline, then apply the iron on adhesive according to the directions and apply. I found it easier to do the lower row first, then the higher.
3. I decided I liked the way it looked better to fold the neckline down a little bit and attach it to hide the thicker part of the lace. But it was too thick for the adhesive to hold, and I was determined to make this an anti-sewing project (I know how to sew, it just takes more time) so I mod podged it. And it worked.
There you go! Three easy steps, ten minutes, and a brand spankin’ new cute sweatshirt. If anyone tries this, send it to me so I can see.
