I had my pageant last night. I went through the first one and didn’t place. So I told myself, “alright. I did my best, and I’m so proud of myself. I genuinely could not have done better.”
Then came the second one. I went through again. And as the judges tabulated the scores, I thought to myself “No matter what happens, I did my best today and I am so proud of what I accomplished in the month I had to prepare.” They read all the special awards, nothing. Then the first runner up and first title. Nothing. Then first runner up for the last title before Miss Texas was crowned. And I thought to myself “You know, I really hope the girl next to me wins. She worked so hard today.” And then I heard my name called. And it registered, but I wasn’t sure how to react. My hands went to my face, and I looked at my family for confirmation it really was my name I heard. Then I went up to be crowned, and spent the next three minutes trying to convince Kendall (Miss Texas) that she was crowning the wrong girl and we must have heard the wrong name. It still hasn’t really hit me. After three years, more prelims then I even want to count (nine if you want to get technical. Five my first year, four my second, this was my first and only this year) I finally reached my goal of being a local titleholder and getting to Miss Texas.
I’m finally Miss McKinney 2012. And for some reason, it feels like all the puzzle pieces have fallen into place. Like I’ve finally figured out where I’m supposed to be. And it’s right here.
